XVI design and style: July 2014

Can you believe July is near the end? I hope everyone is enjoying their festive BBQ’s, sandy beaches, and summer nights! Before we know it fall will be here and we’ll be shopping for cozy pillows and furry throws, BUT lets not think about that because we still have August and SOME of September, at least for us New Yorkers! I mean, we still have some obsessing to do over placemats, outdoor furniture, party accessories, the festivities are endless. Soooo..

What is Tromp L’oeil? It is French for deceive the eye. It is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create an optical illusion, giving a three dimensional effect. This technique is not something new but dates back to Greek and Roman times. Back then they might have depicts a mural such as a window, door or hallway.

Today there are many interesting ways Tromp l’oeil can be used throughout interior design. It is a great way to add depth and dimensional to a space with the use of paint. Check out some of these inspiring images below!
