What do you think of when
you hear the word headboard? Just the top portion of your bed where your
pillows usually rest? An upright panel forming or placed behind the head of the
bed? Well, yes this is what a headboard is but it can also be a focus of a bedroom.
Believe it or not, but the headboard dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece. In
ancient Egypt they were known to have them more for show rather than comfort,
being made of rich materials such as ebony, silver and gold. As time went on
the use for them became more practical being used for comfort and protection
from cold drafts. Nowadays we like to take both the comfort aspect and design
aspect into account when choosing our headboards.
In this post we would like
to show you well-designed and unique headboards that you don’t usually see in
most bedrooms.
How about using some everyday items like books
to create a headboard? You can stack them or apply them to the wall open. Or
even some extra pillows attached to the wall for a nice feature?
A lot of people like to use reclaimed pieces
such as old decorative screens, doors, maps, and even boat oars. Be creative
with your headboards. It could be a great DIY project! Check out these images
for some great ways to re-purpose them!
